Pivot Hinges

A pivot shower door rotates around pivot hardware located near the top and bottom of the door instead of using two side-mounted hinges. This can produce a minimal appearance and a different swing path, but the header, ceiling, curb or floor conditions must match the specified pivot system.

“Pivot” describes the support and rotation method; it does not automatically mean the door opens in both directions. Always check the manufacturer’s stated swing, stop position and installation requirements.

Hinged doors rotate into or away from the opening and therefore require a clear swing zone. Sliding doors move along the opening, making them useful where a vanity, toilet or walkway limits exterior clearance.

Replacement may be possible when the new hinge matches the existing glass thickness, cutouts, hole spacing, plate orientation, handing and load requirements. A hinge should not be selected only because its exterior dimensions look similar.
